We are working with our clinical teams across the network to standardise radiotherapy protocols to ensure patients access the same treatment whichever centre they attend.
There are now network protocols in place for breast cancer, prostate cancer and rectal cancers. This means that patients coming for radiotherapy at The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough and The Northern Centres for Cancer Care at Newcastle and Carlisle will all have access to the same treatment.
We have also made some improvements to treatment techniques for breast radiotherapy through this process.
