Find out more about our work programme

We cover the three radiotherapy centres in the North-East and North Cumbria:

  • The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough
  • The Northern Centre for Cancer Care (NCCC), Newcastle upon Tyne
  • The Northern Centre for Cancer Care, North Cumbria (NCCC NC), Carlisle

WHY DO WE NEED A NETWORK?

Radiotherapy networks have been established to achieve the aims of NHS England's ambition to provide modern, advanced and innovation radiotherapy to patients in England.

By working together with our network colleagues, we can identify innovative solutions to some of the challenges we are facing in radiotherapy.

We can  share best practice and learn from each other to substantially improve outcomes for patients, including higher cure rates and fewer side effects from treatment.

The Northern Radiotherapy Network aims to:

  •  Improve access for patients: we want to improve access across the network to modern, advanced and innovative radiotherapy techniques.

  • Improve outcomes for patients:  we want to improve outcomes by enabling more patients to benefit from cutting edge technology and treatments.

  • Increase participation in clinical trials:  We want to increase participation in research and clinical trials, helping to develop new treatments and drive development of clinical services.

  • Improve patient experience:  We want to ensure that people have access to quality information about their treatment and skilled, experienced, multi-professional teams who can provide holistic care.

  • Reduce variation in quality:  We want to improve standards of care and reduce variation in quality by adopting standardised best practice treatment protocols and ensure people have access to the same standard of treatment at all of the centres in the network.

  • Improve efficiency:  We want to improve equipment utilisation so more people can access treatment.
