IT Infrastructure

Radiotherapy is a specialised treatment that requires a highly skilled, trained and competent workforce to treat patients safely.

Find out how IT systems and software applications are being used to explore opportunities for greater integration between  teams and maximise resources for the benefit of patients.

introduction to Proknow

As part of the Radiotherapy Transformation Progamme, NHS England has asked all Radiotherapy Centres in England to participate in a three-year pilot of a new system called ProKnow.

It follows an extensive phase of provider testing that enabled over 20 radiotherapy centres in England to access, test and assess the system using anonymised data.

The hope is that ProKnow will help drive improvements in radiotherapy treatment plan quality and improve outcomes for patients by;

  • allowing clinicians from different geographical locations to work together to review and modify treatment plans

  • drive standardisation in key areas such as plan quality assessment and peer review

  • support services to participate in regular dosimetry audits, both within and between Radiotherapy Networks, with the aim to maintain and improve the quality of radiotherapy and reduced unwarranted variation

  • Provide valuable teaching and training resources, including access to contouring accuracy tools and treatment plan studies

  • Provide a sustainable platform for quality improvement activities.

More information will be available from some of our ProKnow projects soon.
