Standardising treatment protocols
We are working with our clinical teams across the network to standardise radiotherapy protocols to ensure patients access the same treatment whichever centre they attend.
There are now network protocols in place for the following tumour sites;
- Breast cancer
- Prostate cancer
- Colorectal cancer
- Gynaecological cancers
This means that patients coming for radiotherapy at The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough and The Northern Centres for Cancer Care at Newcastle and Carlisle will all have access to the same treatment.
We have also made some improvements to treatment techniques for breast radiotherapy through this process.
The following treatment protocols are in draft form and should be finalised soon;
- Lymphoma
- Sarcoma
- Head and neck cancer
We have agreed in principle the treatment protocols for the following cancer groups;
- Brain and central nervous system cancer
- Anal cancer
